Internet Fiber
AT&T brought fiber internet to my house today.
I got "cheaper/slower" option: 100 Mbps for $70/month.

Connection speed test is impressive:
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5856067999
Download: 124 Mbps
Upload: 122 Mbps

Speed test to Russia looks funny: download speed (35 Mbps) is less than upload speed (85 Mbps).

Compare it with pathetic 1 Mbps upload speed on my old Comcast connection to Russia (due to high ping).

PingPlotter view of ATT fiber connection:

Lucky
What do you mean "lucky"?
Isn't there fiber in Silicon Valley too?

Re: Lucky
Fiber in SV! I don't know, maybe some people have it somewhere, but it's rare; and generally it'll cost you something like $300/mo - "business plan".

Re: Lucky
That's ironic that Silicon Valley is falling behind in adopting Fiber Interntet.

Several months ago AT&T subcontractors came to our village and put their cable into the ground.
Took them about one day.

It is probably much harder to convince local Silicon Valley governments to give permit to something like that.

Re: Lucky
Google was planning to install fiber in San Jose, but then they abandoned the idea.
