Software Engineer is the best ranking job in the US - do you sense this anyway?
Money? Respect? :)

As far as the work environment itself goes.... :-)
I'll tell you a story...
On my first day in my current company I printed something on network printed and went across the corridor to pick it up. By the time I showed up some other guy from neighboring cube came up to the printer. He was wearing an old t-shirt and shorts. I was shocked a bit first, but then one of colleagues kindly explained that this is the kind of home-like environment you usually see in Software Companies. They are infamous for being informal and not requiring anything even close to suit and tie (most of them at least)...

Re: As far as the work environment itself goes.... :-)
Why "Infamous" [for being informal]?
Famous!

Re: Your own posts?
You have to post at least "test" post, like:
"Hi, it's test, do you see me?".
Than you'll get bunch of compliments and congratulations with you finally starting your Live Journal
:-)

Если бы мне платили в неком месте офигенную з/п, я был бы даже согласен приходить туда в костюме ;))

Re: As far as the work environment itself goes.... :-)
Посмотрел, но там есть некая усредненная картина.
Я люблю получать информацию от непосредственных участников процесса ;)

Re: As far as the work environment itself goes.... :-)

Suit at work
What salary do you need in order to wear suit to work?
Aren't you wearing suit to work now?

Re: Suit at work
1) $120.000/year
2) No, because IT-workers in SB don't contact with clients :)

Re: Suit at work
Well if you are:
1) an IT contractor
2) know how to and can sell youself

Then this is actually realistic. :-)

Re: Suit at work
Do you mean that just 20% increase of your salary (other things equal) wouldn't be enough for you to start wearing a costume?

Anyway, why would company pay you this additional 20% if you would do exactly same work?
