Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
I wonder why MSFT price went up (slightly) after the news of Gates retirement?
Other stocks went down.
Does it mean that investors don't believe in Bill Gates anymore?

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
I've read analysts opinions saying that his retirement did not change their view on MSFT much.
His gradual transition away from day-to-day operations started few years back anyways...

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
In general it looks to me that bad things usually happen on the stock market when bad news are NOT anticipated. If everybody already knows/anticipates something, even something bad, stocks don't seem to go down much...
Just an observation...

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
Do you mean Bill Gates's retirement was anticipated?

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
In a way, yes...
As that article on Tom's Hardware says:

"Today's statement gives indications that this transition plan has already been in the works for some time, dating back to September 2005 and the beginning of a series of mid- to high-level executive transitions following the hiring of former Lotus and Groove Networks executive Ray Ozzie as Chief Technology Officer."

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
"plan has already been in the works for some time," means that insiders knew about Gates' future retirement. But did majority of MSFT holders know about this retirement plan?

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
I think they added 2 and 2. :-)

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
What were those "2 & 2"? Bill Gate's dedication to spending money instead of earning them later in life?

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
well, don't know about that...
but he's been at the helm of MSFT for like 30 years...
time to retire may be... :-)

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
Why 30 years? Why not 50?

Re: Bill Gates will retire in 2008 !
1. Software development is a hard job... :-)
2. He made some much money that it all doesn't matter anymore... :-)
