The world according to Americans

Not all Americans! :-) But for some I guess this view of the world makes their lives "easier".:-)
I talked to one guy at work recently. He told me that he is going to vote for whatever candidate says the right things on ONE! issue: abortion. If the candidate is pro-life - he is voting for him.
On my comment: "isn't that a bit narrow-minded?", he responded "I simplified my life!". And he is an educated man, not an idiot obviously.

Price of tea in China? Where did that come from? I didn't talk about that... :-) I would not agree with the statement that **most** Americans would agree with this view of the world or that their "level" of understanding the world around them is exactly that. Generalizations are dangerous... :-)

Why does this guy consider Abortion issue as the most important?

From my perspective it's not very important whether the outcome is pro-choice or pro-life.
There are lots of more important things that that.

Well, he is a catholic from PA. He says he doesn't want any government money at all to go towards promoting abortions.
And why this ONE issue is a show stopper for him - I don't know. Perhaps he is too religious. I myself cannot imagine choosing a candidate just based on that. But what do I know, I am not even catholic. :-)

I don't want any government money spent on promoting abortions.
I also don't want any government money spent on preventing abortions either.
So it seems that I at least 50% agree with the guy
:-)

OmG live isn't simple, and if you want it simple read the down to earth pieces of your bible. Like James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world."
In other words: look after the weak in society, and keep YOURSELF from sinning.

Anyway funny map, but what do americans think of africa? ;)

Oh and do us pussies in Europe a favour, stop the war and try save the economy (We don't want to have to bail you out) -> vote Obama

If I could stop the war, I would. If I could vote Obama, I would too. But I am not a US citizen yet, so I can't vote.:-)
As far as bailing us out, first o all we are quite big and I am not sure if even united Europe can do that.:-)
US economy is quite resilient. What is happening now is not even close to what was going on in 1991 or in the 70-s. It may get worse, of course , but not horrible yet by historical means.
And please bail out Island, it is a nice place with wonderful people and I want to go there some day. :-)
On a serious note, I am a bit worried that European politicians may start using US as a scape goat for their own economic problems. The current crisis started in the US, no question about it. But it looks to me that European governments also slept behind the wheel a little bit and share responsibility for what is going on. I think what this crisis showed one more time is that we are truly a WORLD economy. We need a lot more effective cooperation between all countries.

And as far as that guy goes, I failed to convince him of anything. :-%Pr
