Google Circles vs LiveJournal
Silicon Valley debates if Google+ would kill Facebook and Twitter.
I wonder what would happen to LiveJournal.
It looks like Google Circles would directly compete with features that LiveJournal has (and FaceBook/Twitter do not).
LiveJournal allows to friend people without them them friend you back. Facebook does not do that.
That's probably why LiveJournal is still alive even though technically it fell behind.

Now Google Circles may finally kill LiveJournal...

We had it in orkut... well, thanks to lj, of course.

Whatever.

Do you mean Orkut borrowed one way friending from LiveJournal?

And that did not help [against FaceBook or LiveJournal]?

Talking about Orkut:
it has less US traffic than postjobfree does:

I did. Kind of managed to convince the guys that friendship is not symmetrical.

Sure it did not help; the motivation there was totally different.

What kind of motivation did Orkut have?
журнал закрытjuan_gandhi on July 7th, 2011 10:50 pm (UTC)
Orkut Buyukokten is okay; by the time I was working there he was a cult figure, not involved in anything.

And I wrote about the kind of motivation for social networkers at Google already.

Thank you for pointing it out.
I thought that Google bought Orkut. But wikipedia states that Google developed Orkut:
1) in-house.
2) By the guy named Orkut.
3) On 20% time.
All three things are surprises to me.
--------
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orkut_B%C3%BCy%C3%BCkk%C3%B6kten
Orkut decided to use his 20% time to develop a cyberspace preserve where the people of the world could intermingle in peace, presumable so their good vibes would go viral.
--------

Why did Google pushed Orkut Büyükkökten aside from his baby-project [Orkut]?
журнал закрытjuan_gandhi on July 8th, 2011 05:07 am (UTC)
This is not exactly true. Orkut had it whjile he was a student at Stanford. To communicate with his girlfriend (an amazilngly tough Chinese bitch). As I understand, he just got back to it while at Google; and, being a friend of important people, he got some "horsepower".

Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on August 7th, 2011 06:38 pm (UTC)
tan_y on August 7th, 2011 06:40 pm (UTC)
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on August 7th, 2011 06:46 pm (UTC)
tan_y on August 7th, 2011 06:49 pm (UTC)
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on August 7th, 2011 07:14 pm (UTC)
