My first US Elections
Today I finally voted in my first US elections.
Came to our local poll and used voting notes that I prepared 4 weeks ago
It took few minutes to copy my answers to 23 polling questions (it took few hours to research and answer them 4 weeks ago).

Next step - feed my answers to voting counting machine.
The machine looked like giant fax machine.
Counting machine agreed that my ballot was valid and assigned it #800.

Congrats!

We vote by mail.

Did you ever go to the polling station?

I was curious to see how it looks like.

May be after few more elections it would be boring so I would give up going there.
Hopefully by then they would allow voting over Internet.
We are well into 21 century already.

Future from "Back to the Future" is the next year.

Next step is making people vote for you!

Yeah - collecting Facebook likes.

Congratulations! I am always happy to see a new responsible voter. No matter how he or she votes.
By the way, now I know where you live. :)

Do you mean voting number gives exact address of the voter?
Биологalleukemist on November 5th, 2014 12:51 am (UTC)
No, no. I just saw the names of the candidates and figured your district, that's it.
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on November 5th, 2014 12:59 am (UTC)
Oh, but my voting district you can figure out from my LJ profile.

You can characterize the district pretty much as "I'm NOT going to vote for Democrats".
People may or may not vote for Republicans, but barely anyone would vote for Democrats.
Further south (e.g. Miami) Democrats have better luck, and Florida as a whole is on the fence with slight preference to vote Republican.

Why did not you vote 4 weeks ago? I did.
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on November 5th, 2014 04:10 am (UTC)
Do you mean - by snail mail?

I may in the future.
But this time I wanted to see how it looks like "on-site".

How many US elections did you have so far?
Американский Наблюдатель: Uncle Samyostrov on November 5th, 2014 04:16 am (UTC)
I am Citizen of the US from 2004.
I prefer Early Voting. Always do it on-site.
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on November 5th, 2014 04:33 am (UTC)
Ok, I may try early voting too next time.
Do all regular voting locations available for early voting or should I drive to bigger voting center in order to vote early?
Американский Наблюдатель: Uncle Samyostrov on November 5th, 2014 04:39 am (UTC)
There are diferent locations for an early voting and regular one.

congrats.
I think this is important step and very exciting experience
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on November 5th, 2014 12:51 pm (UTC)
Thanks.
"Exciting" - yes.
"Very" - no.
My vote is only one in hundreds on millions of others.
