House of Cards
That's fun to watch about how politics is made:
"You are not going to work anywhere you are not willing to get fired from."

It took me several minutes to parse the meaning of that quote.

"Вы не должны работать в месте, из которого не готовы уволиться"? ;)

"Ты не станешь работать там, где ты не готова, что тебя уволят".
Это говорит House Majority Whip своей подружке-репортёрше.

Можно обобщить: не влезай туда, откуда, возможно, не сможешь вылезти ;)

Это уже скорее про шпионов, а не про политиков

Звучало и в гораздо более невинных ситуациях: например, когда Алиса полезла в кроличью нору :)

It's hard to get the meaning of this quote without knowing the context. But in general, I follow the rule one of my managers told me about: "the first thing you do starting a new job is you update your resume."

1) I agree - context helps to understand the quote.
2) Yes, I always update my resume immediately after I started new job. Unless I update my resume - it's misleading, because without update it claims I still work on my past project.
3) Have you watched House of cards yet?

2. I meant that as soon as you start a job, you should immediately start looking for the next (better) one. That way you don't miss any great opportunities just because you just started something new.

3. Your post is the first time I've heard about "House of Cards". I'll check it out. Have you watched "Breaking Bad"?
Dennis Gorelikdennisgorelik on February 25th, 2013 04:22 am (UTC)
I watched 3+ seasons of Breaking Bad, but then it started to turn into slow/boring stuff, so I stopped.
House of Cards is better, or at least first (and only so far) season is.

I finally watched the first season of House of Cards. It's not bad, but it's not as good as the first season of Breaking Bad. I'm a bit disappointed, because I haven't learned anything new about American politics from watching it. I think it would have been much better if told from the point of view of a staffer (like Doug or Remi), or from a point of view of younger Frank, in the days when he just graduated from the military academy, and started working his way up.
What did you like about it?

I also watched Gotham, and I liked it. Slightly different genre, but very well made.

I liked House of Cards because it showed how politicians work: their goals, tricks, financing, interaction with press, how political experts work.
